Have you ever noticed that some days you instinctively want to wear blue, while on others you are drawn to black, green, or brighter colors?
It may seem like a simple choice. Yet colors are part of our sensory environment, and they can influence our perceptions, emotions, and the associations our brain creates.
In energetic approaches, colors also carry a strong symbolic dimension.
So, can wearing certain colors really make us “vibrate” differently?
As we often do in the Inner Forest, let’s explore what neuroscience can tell us… while leaving room for a more intuitive and energetic perspective. 🌲✨
🧠 What Does Our Brain Do With Colors?
A color is, first and foremost, a perception created by our visual system from light.
When light reaches our eyes, different wavelengths stimulate photoreceptors in the retina. This information is then transmitted to the brain, which interprets it and constructs our perception of color.
But we do not experience colors in a completely neutral way.
Throughout our lives, our brains associate them with memories, experiences, emotions, and cultural meanings.
This means that the same color can evoke very different feelings from one person to another.
Blue might feel calming to one person while reminding someone else of a particular memory. Red can feel energizing, warm, passionate… or, for another person, simply too intense.
Our relationship with color is therefore both sensory, emotional, cultural, and deeply personal.
👗 What Happens When We Wear a Color?
This is where things become particularly interesting.
The clothes we wear can contribute to the way we perceive ourselves.
Choosing a color can be a way of expressing our mood, but it can also help us intentionally reinforce the state of mind we want to cultivate.
Imagine choosing a deep blue shirt in the morning while thinking:
“Today, I need calm and clarity.”
Throughout the day, that color can become a visual reminder of your intention.
It is not necessarily the blue itself that transforms your inner state. Instead, it may act as a signal that your brain associates with an intention, emotion, or attitude.
And that alone can make our choice of colors much more meaningful.
✨ Is It Really About “Vibration”?
Here, an important distinction needs to be made.
Colors do correspond to different wavelengths — and therefore different frequencies — within visible light.
However, this does not mean that wearing a garment of a particular color literally makes our body “vibrate at the frequency” of that color.
At present, such a mechanism has not been scientifically established.
Within energetic or spiritual approaches, however, the word vibration can be understood differently: as a way of describing our inner state, our intention, and the emotional quality we wish to cultivate.
Color can then become a symbolic support for intention.
So instead of asking:
“Which color has the highest vibration?”
perhaps we could ask:
“Which color helps me move closer to the inner state I need today?”
🎨 A Little Palette of Intentions
There is no universal correspondence between a particular color and a specific emotion. However, some symbolic associations can provide inspiration:
🔵 Blue — Calm & Clarity
For days when you want to slow down, think clearly, and cultivate a greater sense of serenity.
🩵 Teal / Peacock Blue — Balance & Expression
Sitting somewhere between blue and green, it can symbolize calm, depth, balance, and self-expression.
🟢 Green — Balance & Reconnection
Naturally associated with plants and forests, green can accompany an intention to reconnect with nature and restore harmony.
🔴 Red — Energy & Action
It can symbolize momentum, determination, presence, passion, and vitality.
🟡 Yellow — Light & Optimism
A color that can accompany intentions related to curiosity, enthusiasm, openness, and dynamism.
🟣 Purple — Intuition & Introspection
Often symbolically associated with turning inward, reflection, imagination, and intuition.
🤎 Brown — Grounding & Stability
Reminiscent of earth, wood, and natural materials, brown can symbolize stability, grounding, and a return to what is essential.
⚪ White / Cream — Space & New Beginnings
It can evoke simplicity, lightness, breathing space, and the feeling of starting again with a clearer page.
⚫ Black — Protection & Inner Space
Black can represent elegance, strength, simplicity, or the desire to create a protective cocoon around ourselves.
🌿 Choosing a Color as a Small Daily Ritual
We can use colors without needing to attribute powers to them that they do not need to have.
In the morning, simply take a few seconds before choosing your clothes.
Close your eyes and ask yourself:
What do I need today?
Calm?
Energy?
Confidence?
Grounding?
Gentleness?
Creativity?
Then choose a color that, for you, represents that state.
There is no wrong answer.
If black makes you feel safe and comforted while a color chart tells you it represents something completely different, listen to your own association.
Your personal experiences matter more than a color code found on the Internet.
🫐 Müri’s Little Color Ritual
Müri has a simple experiment for you to try for one week.
Each morning:
- Choose an intention for your day.
- Spontaneously associate a color with that intention.
- Wear that color — even if it is only a small accessory.
- Pay attention to how you feel throughout the day.
- In the evening, simply ask yourself: “Did this color remind me of my intention?”
The goal is not to prove that a particular color has a special power.
Instead, it is an opportunity to observe how attention, intention, perception, and symbolism can interact.
🌲 Where Neuroscience and Energy Meet
Perhaps this is where these two worlds can meet without confusing one with the other.
Neuroscience helps us understand that our brain is constantly interpreting our environment and creating associations between perceptions, memories, and emotions.
An energetic approach can use color as a symbolic language — a way to set an intention and become more aware of our inner state.
Color does not need to become a magical formula.
It can simply become a tool for awareness.
And perhaps choosing our clothes in the morning can become a much more meaningful ritual than it first appears:
